Noss new head of CMPDA

Four months after she stepped in for Doug Frith, the Canadian Motion Picture Distributors Association has made it official, and on Thursday installed Wendy Noss as its new executive director.

Noss, a copyright lawyer and former general counsel for the group, which represents the interests of Hollywood studios in Canada, assumes the title immediately. She reports to CMPDA chairman Bob Pisano.

Noss, who joined the group in 2006, ‘has successfully tackled some of the most important legal and legislative issues confronting the motion picture industry in Canada,’ said Pisano in a statement. ‘She will be an effective and persuasive representative for the film industry.’

Pushing for new laws to reduce copyright infringement and to bring Canada in line with the 1997 World Intellectual Property Organization, Internet treaties are high priorities for CMPDA and Noss. The group was behind the swift passage in 2007 of anti-camcordering legislature.
