CBC orders two new dramas

CBC has given the go-ahead to two new dramas for its 2008/09 season, The Session and The Wild Roses.

The Session is about 32-year-old Erica Strange (Erin Karpluk from Godiva’s), who can go back in time and relive key moments in her life, thanks to a mysterious therapist (Michael Riley from This Is Wonderland).

Jana Sinyor (Dark Oracle) created the series, and Aaron Martin (The Best Years) is the showrunner. It comes from Temple Street Productions, with Temple’s Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier exec producing, and BBC Worldwide in charge of international distribution rights.

Meanwhile, The Wild Roses is a story of oil, money and greed situated in booming Calgary. It features Sarah Power (Repo! The Genetic Opera) and Steve Byers (Falcon Beach). Canadian Film Centre grad Amy Cameron, Tassie Cameron (The Robber Bride) and Miranda de Pencier (PU-239) are creators, while Shelley Eriksen (Shania: A Life in Eight Albums) is showrunning. It’s a copro by Seven24 Films and Northwood Productions.

‘We’ve had terrific success with our schedule in 2007/08 and are excited to build on that momentum with these two great new series,’ says CBC programming chief Kirstine Layfield.
