DHX Media has sold the first season of Kid vs. Kat to Jetix U.S., closing a deal for the 26 x 30 kids series shortly after Global Television asked for a second season of The Guard.
The animated Kid vs. Kat — about a 10-year-old boy’s tumultuous relationship with a poorly behaved pet cat — is targeted at kids aged six to 11, and was greenlit in January by YTV. It is produced DHX-owned Studio B Productions.
The deal comes two months after Jetix secured the show for its European networks. Kid vs. Kat will debut on European TV in early 2009. That deal also secured rights for the show to air in the Middle East, including pay and free TV distribution. The show will be seen in more than 100 territories worldwide.
‘We are thrilled to be bringing Kid vs. Kat to audiences in the U.S. through a strong broadcaster like Jetix U.S.,’ said Studio B exec Blair Peters in a statement. ‘They are the perfect home for this action-packed comedy series.’
As previously reported, DHX last week scored an order for a second season of The Guard. The action series by its Halifax Film outfit and Vancouver’s Brightlight Pictures debuted to strong numbers on Global’s mid-season schedule and has been asked back for a second run.
The next season ‘will help us secure significant international sales,’ says Halifax Film president Charles Bishop.
