YTV has ordered 13 episodes of Survivorman Kids, a pint-size series ‘inspired’ by the reality series, from Toronto’s 9 Story Entertainment, which has brought in filmmaker and survival expert Les Stroud.
Survivorman Kids, which is the working title, will take a team of six 14- to 16-year-olds into the wilderness for three weeks, testing their survival skills, with Stroud serving as mentor and judge.
It will be the first live-action show from 9 Story (Peep and the Big Wide World, Skyland). ‘This show will inspire kids to reach much higher than they ever thought they could,’ said CEO Vince Commisso in a statement. ‘This partnership is proof positive of our commitment to seek out projects with strong appeal and potential, and to take them from development, to production and delivery within a targeted time-frame.’
Stroud will ‘show our audiences that they have the same capability, both mentally and physically, and give kids a chance to test themselves in the wild outdoors,’ added Scott Dyer, EVP and GM of Corus Kids Television.
The company announced its deal with Stroud to develop a survival show at MIPCOM in October. Survivorman airs on Discovery Channel in the U.S. and on OLN in Canada.
No word yet on when the show might hit the airwaves.
