Infinity Features is back at work on The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus with, as previously reported, Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell taking over for the late Heath Ledger.
The coproduction by director Terry Gilliam has resumed shooting at The Bridge Studios in Vancouver and is expected to stay until late April. The picture was to start the Canadian half of its shoot in January, but was delayed following Ledger’s death, leaving Gilliam (Tideland) to rework the story and his latest troubled project.
The ‘realistic’ scenes in the fantasy/adventure shot last year in the U.K. The studio shooting underway in B.C. will see Depp, Law and Farrell play fantasy-world versions of Ledger’s character.
‘Since the format of the story allows for the preservation of his entire performance, at no point will Heath’s work be modified or altered through the use of digital technology,’ said the producers, in a statement. The movie, reportedly budgeted at around $30 million, is produced by Infinity’s William Vince (Capote), Samuel Hadida (Silent Hill, the Resident Evils) of Paris-based Davis Films and Gilliam’s daughter Amy Gilliam (Push).
The story follows a traveling theater troupe, with Ledger playing a new and mysterious member. The ensemble cast includes Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Lily Cole, Verne Troyer and Andrew Garfield.
‘I am grateful to Johnny, Colin and Jude for coming on board, and to everyone who has made it possible to finish this film,’ added Gilliam. ‘I am delighted that Heath’s brilliant performance can he shared with the world.’
