Infinity waiting on Gilliam

The Vancouver shoot for the feature The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus will go forward after director Terry Gilliam rewrites the script, according to a spokesperson, though the official word has stopped short of confirming reports that thesps Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Johnny Depp have been tapped to replace the late Heath Ledger.

‘Terry is still working on the script,’ says Graham Smith, spokesperson for the London half of the production, though he would not speculate when production might get underway in B.C., noting, ‘With the revised script, it will be rescheduled.’

Smith will not say if Law, Depp and Farrell are attached to the project, though he notes that, ‘it certainly bears out what Terry told me a couple of weeks ago.’ Earlier this week, Reuters and the BBC quoted Law’s spokesperson saying the three stars were attached. They will reportedly share Ledger’s role — not necessarily a stretch given the fantasy nature of the film.

The big-budget copro, handled here by Vancouver’s Infinity Features, was scheduled to begin production in mid-January at The Bridge Studios, but was delayed following the death last month of star Ledger due to an accidental overdose. Production was nearly halfway through. The project did its location shooting in the U.K. and will do studio work in B.C. Infinity producer Bill Vince was unavailable for comment.

There is no word where the project will be posted. A production office for the shoot is open in Vancouver.

Imaginarium, a fantasy-adventure about a traveling theater company that can control the imagination of its audience, also stars Christopher Plummer. Ledger played Tony, a mysterious new member of the troupe.
