MONTREAL — Icky science, star athletes and Quebec cinema are among the themes explored in the latest round of projects financed by Quebecor’s Main Production Assistance Program.
Montreal-based CarpeDiem Film & TV received $400,000 for My Life Me, a series of 11-minute shows, in English and French, for kids aged eight to 12, which will be broadcast on Teletoon.
‘Without Quebecor, this project couldn’t see the light of day,’ says CarpeDiem’s Normand Thauvette. ‘This money will help us for the cell phone, TV and Internet components of the project.’ My Life Me‘s total budget is just over $9 million, says Thauvette.
Among the other projects recently financed by MPAP are:
• Grossology – Glurp Attack II (Nelvana): an animated series based on the books by microbiologist Sylvia Branzei, to be broadcast on YTV.
• Kaboum (Productions Pixcom): a fantasy reality series, to be broadcast on Télé-Québec.
• La passion du sport (Productions Vic Pelletier): a series of 13 shows that looks at athletes from various disciplines, to be broadcast on TV5.
• Humanima 2.0 (Productions Nova Média): a series about people with exceptional relationships, to be broadcast on TV5, RDI and Radio-Canada.
• Cinéma québécois (Océan Diffusion): a documentary series of 13 shows that looks at Quebec cinema, to be broadcast on Télé-Québec.
Established through Videotron, MPAP injects $4 million into French- and English-language audiovisual projects annually. Since it was created in 2000, Videotron has pumped $23.8 million into 78 projects.
The next round of submissions for financial aid will be held on April 1, 2008.
