• Shawn Redmond is now VP of marketing at TSN, overseeing all consumer marketing strategies for the cable caster and its digichannels NHL Network and ESPN Classic. His new responsibilities include consumer advertising, on-air promotions, communications, research and special events. Since 2005, Redmond has been TSN’s senior marketing manager, and led the integration of the marketing team.
• Adam Ashton and David Strickland have joined the CTV/Rogers Olympic team, Strickland as SVP of sales and Ashton as VP of marketing for coverage of the 2010 and 2012 Games. Sandy Fraser, former promotions manager at CTV Toronto, has been promoted to director of Olympic promotions for CTVglobemedia. She will be managing all consumer-based marketing and promotion for the network’s 27 conventional stations and 35 cable channels.
• Len Perry has been promoted to VP and GM of CTV Calgary, where he will oversee the day-to-day operations of the station, effective Jan. 1. Perry led the local news team for the past seven years and succeeds the departing Pat McDougall.
• Rogers Sportsnet VP of marketing Dave Ballingall is taking over as GM of sportsnet.ca, doing double duty as the site aims to increase its visitors.
• Giulia Filippelli is leaving her post as head of the sales and industry office at the Toronto International Film Festival, ending three years with the fest for personal reasons. Filippelli will be replaced by Stefan Wirthensohn effective Jan. 1, but will stay on as a consultant, based in London.
• Sara Gregorash has been promoted to network programmer at Channel Zero, the owner of Movieola and Silver Screen Classics.
• Format distributor Distraction has announced a round of promotions at its Montreal office – upping Chrystine Girard to EVP, Mitzi Berberi to VP of business and legal affairs, Max Oliveras to director of programming and Kathleen Prefontaine to director of marketing. Tom Misselbrook has come over from the company’s London office to be sales and acquisitions coordinator.
• Mary-Lynn Charlton has been named to the board of trustees at the National Film Board by Heritage Minister Josée Verner. The former SaskFilm board member and media relations veteran started a three-year contract on Dec. 3.
• The CTV communications team has been overhauled, with Laura Heath upped to director of communications, overseeing all publicity for the network and its A-Channels. Gabrielle Free has been promoted to senior director of entertainment specialties, while Greg Mclsaac advances to senior manager for news and current affairs and CHUM Radio.
