Walter Cronkite will have another trophy for his bookshelf after the History Makers summit, which will present the veteran newsman with its first lifetime achievement award when it convenes in New York in January.
The former CBS anchorman ‘upholds the highest journalistic standards while communicating a sense of shared humanity with his audience,’ said organizer Bill Nemtin, in a statement. ‘There are few journalists who have had the impact on the public that Mr. Cronkite has had over his career.’
The awards gala of the three-day conference — for makers and broadcasters of history-themed TV — will also present an award for best program of the year. The conference is organized by Achilles Media, which this week is also staging the nextMedia meet-up in Toronto.
