Two weeks after launching on Bell ExpessVu, Super Channel has inked a deal with content giant IMG Media, based in the U.K. and New York.
Touted as the world’s largest independent distributor of sports programming and live events, and a leader in multi-genre content, IMG will provide the start-up pay-TV service with sports, comedies, dramas and factual entertainment.
Included will be Benidorm, a hit comedy from Britain; Ruddy Hell! It’s Harry and Paul, a sketch series featuring two of the U.K.’s biggest names in comedy; Roman’s Empire, a comedy about a self-made multimillionaire; Bollywood Bosses, which chronicles the Indian movie industry; and King of Miami, which follows comedian Dave Hill’s bid to reign over the Florida city.
‘Our agreement with IMG highlights Super Channel’s commitment to changing the way viewers think of pay-TV in Canada,’ says programming VP Sandy Perkins. ‘Offering even more programming that Canadians can’t get anywhere else makes Super Channel a whole new television experience.’
Super Channel is a cross-Canada service run by Allarco Entertainment, which is looking to break the pay-TV duopoly of Movie Central and The Movie Network.
Also arriving on Super Channel via IMG is Gamer.tv. The international weekly magazine show for video game enthusiasts mixes reviews, news, previews and features for video games. ‘Connecting the gaming world with today’s television entertainment makes the medium much more than a passive experience,’ says Perkins.
