There’s a reason the Emmy Awards have never been held in Nebraska. And for that same reason (do we even need to spell it out?) we question the wisdom of moving the Gemini Awards to Regina.
And yet, the Junos managed to fill a room in Saskatoon, so maybe we’re wrong. To find out, we asked this year’s nominees:
Are you going to Regina for the Geminis?
Just last week I bought a beat-up old van that we will be driving out there later this month…My nomination only gets me one free ticket to the awards show, so after buying a couple more tickets for my buddies, I’ve totally spent all my Gemini Awards show budget for this year. And we still need to find places to sleep along the way.

I am indeed going…it is an honor to be recognized by your peers and, more importantly, it’s going to be like a big industry slumber party. Just imagine a bunch of actors, writers, lots of booze, directors, producers, Peter Mansbridge, snazzy outfits, hotel rooms, wheat, Don Cherry, a hot tub, more booze, frightened Reginans, Strombo, a serious amount of booze. Actually, now I’m not sure!
Teresa Pavlinek, star and creator, The Jane Show
Of course I’m going to the Geminis. MuchMusic is up for four awards and I’m one of the only Much staffers we let out of the building.
Sheila Sullivan, director of programming, MuchMusic
We are going to the Geminis in Toronto and Regina to support the entire Canadian television industry. We are all creatively inspired by our peers, so why wouldn’t we support each other?
Dennis Jackson, producer, Wapos Bay
Of course. It’s a chance for a plucky animated cable show to travel into the home turf of our main rival in the comedy category, one of the most beloved shows in the country, watched by gazillions…ah, geez, we don’t stand a chance.
