In a sound decision, Imprint Music has tripled its recording capacity with the launch of Pork Pie Studios, providing full audio record and mix solutions for the film, television and advertising industries.
‘Pork Pie was created to fill a huge gap in the audio post-production sector in Toronto,’ says Imprint CEO and founder Fraser MacDougall. ‘All the big studios have either downsized or moved outside the city. We wanted to offer a professional location in the heart of downtown.’
Located in the 6,200-square-foot studio on Carlaw Avenue (previously occupied by Alliance Atlantis), Pork Pie now ranks amongst Toronto’s largest audio post-production facilities, with two acoustically designed live recording floors (totaling 2,500 square feet), ideal for ensemble voice recording or medium orchestral applications.
Newly added are two state-of-the-art control rooms, both fully equipped for any professional audio project. Pork Pie has also installed a Solid State Logic AWS 900+ analog workstation console for all of its film, television and advertising work.
Imprint has been composing and producing sound for commercials and drama for 12 years.
In 2004, MacDougall and the late Dave Palmer scored the National Film Board short film Hardwood, which was nominated for a 2005 Oscar as best documentary short. The new studio is named for Palmer, who frequently wore a pork pie hat, and whose favorite music included the song Goodbye Pork Pie Hat by Charles Mingus.
