Telefilm renews doc project

Telefilm Canada has renewed its Theatrical Documentary Pilot Program, and will make nearly $1.9 million available to producers of English and French feature-length documentaries — with the help of the National Film Board and the Rogers Group of Funds.

Telefilm’s contribution of $1 million will allocate two-thirds for the English-language market and one-third for French, broken down into production and post-production. Rogers is committing $375,000, with English projects getting a $250,000 slice of the pie.

Meanwhile, the NFB will make $500,000 available for English and French docmakers who are at the production stage and who wish to co-produce with the NFB.

‘The partners’ distinct but complementary mandates have created a unique situation whereby eligible producers have increased access to financial resources, more flexibility and greater autonomy,’ commented Telefilm executive director Wayne Clarkson in a release.

‘This partnership will create a significant opportunity, both practically and financially, for successful applicants to access the theatrical marketplace,’ added Robin Mirsky, executive director of the Rogers Group of Funds.

The deadline for applications is Nov. 5. Guidelines and applications are available at www.telefilm.gc.ca
