Broken Trail set for Superchannel

Emmy winner Broken Trail has been picked up by Superchannel, which announced Wednesday it will rerun the AMC miniseries this fall, following the launch of the national pay channel.

The Alberta-shot mini — coproduced by Calgary’s Nomadic Pictures, U.S.-based Once Upon a Time Films and Butcher’s Run Films — won Emmys last month for best miniseries and best casting, as well as acting honors for Robert Duvall and Thomas Haden Church. The western follows two ranchers on an arduous horse drive from Oregon to Wyoming. It aired on AMC in the U.S. but has not been seen on a Canadian broadcaster.

Broken Trail is ‘evidence of the calibre of programming Canadians will experience with Superchannel,’ said VP of programming Sandy Perkins in a release. An airdate for Broken Trail has not been set.

Owned by Edmonton-based Allarco, Superchannel consists of two HD channels, four standard channels and a standard VOD platform. Its launch was scheduled for Oct. 19, though Allarco now says it is targeting sometime ‘this fall.’

Earlier this week, the channel announced an agreement with Channel 4 International for series, docs and TV movies, including Teachers, No Angels, Wedding Belles, The Yellow House, Mr Miss Pageant, Hypochondriacs Holiday and Thanks for the Memories.
