Donnellys resurface on Showcase

The last six episodes of The Black Donnellys will make it to air in Canada this month on Showcase Action, which picked up the Paul Haggis series following its brief run this spring on NBC and Global.

The Alliance Atlantis digichannel has been running Donnellys since summer, and is hyping the final episodes of the 13 x 60 series, which, though offered for download on the NBC site, did not make it to air before the axe came down in April. The final episodes start Oct. 7.

Donnellys, about four Irish-American brothers who become tangled up in the world of organized crime, aired in simulcast on Global opposite CTV’s CSI: Miami, garnering audiences in the mid-to-high 400,000s. It stars Jonathan Tucker, currently starring in the Haggis feature In the Valley of Elah, Olivia Wilde (The O.C. ) and Tom Guiry (Mystic River).

‘There were many disappointed fans when The Black Donnellys was originally pulled. We want to give our viewers the chance to watch this riveting series the way it was meant to be seen — in its entirety,’ said Marni Shulman-Tucker, VP of content, in a statement.

The show has somewhat higher name recognition among Canadians, in that it takes its name from the infamous clan that lived in Haggis’ hometown of London, ON in the 1800s.
