NFB Cross Media Challenge
Producers of innovative and interactive content for mobile and broadband have a shot at a $10,500 development deal with this National Film Board competition. The NFB and the U.K.’s Sheffield International Documentary Festival are calling for proposals by Oct. 12. Three semi-finalists will present their projects at the Sheffield fest. Cogeco Program Development Fund
Cogeco will grant up to $5,000 for development of original cross-platform content supporting television drama, series and MOWs. The funding will go towards the early stages of research, concept and design. Deadlines for applications are March 1, July 1 and Oct. 1. See www.ipf.ca
B.C. Stories
Telefilm Canada and the Whistler Film Festival are calling for pitches from B.C. filmmakers for the short film program B.C. Stories. Up to five filmmakers will get training, mentorship and cash to create shorts that are inspired by or created in the province. The program is part of B.C.’s culture-building initiative leading up to the 2010 Winter Olympics. Submission guidelines and forms are available at www.whistlerfilmfestival.com. The deadline is Sept. 28.
The Detour on Teletoon
Teletoon is looking for surreal and entertaining cartoons for its teen/adult block The Detour. The channel wants proposals for pilots in either English or French, to be financed in part by the Canadian Television Fund. The deadline is Dec. 31.
Slate Development
Telefilm Canada’s new Slate Development program is meant to boost the box office of English-language features, and is open to feature producers who have not benefited from the Canada Feature Film Fund. The three-year pilot effort will provide a non-interest-bearing line of credit for companies that have three or more projects in development and are affiliated with a recognized distributor. Guidelines are online at the Telefilm site. Deadline is Nov. 30.
