Test the Nation loses some steam

CBC’s Test the Nation: Watch Your Language attracted nearly 900,000 viewers on Sept. 9 — with the in-studio team of ad writers coming out on top. But the two-hour interactive quiz show didn’t do as well as the first Test the Nation, which raked in 1.5 million viewers in March.

The on-air competitors consisted of seven teams: word gamers, ad writers, English teachers, fraternities and sororities, comedians, romance novelists and celebrities. The celebrity participants included Cathy Jones, Sheila McCarthy, Kim Stockwood, Patrick McKenna, Sook-Yin Lee, Andrew Coyne and Russell Smith. Smith, a columnist with the Globe and Mail, was the top-performing celebrity.

The next installment of the show, testing Canadians’ knowledge of world trivia, will air in January.
