Two days after it closed a deal with MGM, the soon-to-launch Superchannel has signed a second deal with Maple Pictures, taking the exclusive pay-TV rights to its theatrical releases and series such as Saw III, Death of a President and Happily N’Ever After.
The channel — a dark horse threat to the pay-TV duopoly of The Movie Network and Movie Central, due to launch next month — comes from Alberta-based Allarco Entertainment, which earlier this week signed a long-term agreement with MGM, covering titles such as the Dead Like Me movie, Spaceballs: The Animated Series and Barbershop: The Series.
The titles are ‘a terrific example of the kind of innovative offering viewers will have access to on Superchannel,’ said the startup’s VP of programming, Sandy Perkins, in a statement on Friday.
