TIFF sees the Light

The Toronto International Film Festival has put the name of a longtime sponsor on its future headquarters, now to be known as Bell Lightbox. Representatives of the festival and the phone company unveiled the building’s name and its yellow-and-blue geometric logo via a video press conference on Monday.

‘This is another milestone in achieving Toronto International Film Festival Group’s goal — to be the landmark destination for the moving image,’ said director and CEO Piers Handling.

‘The new building will have the most advanced technology that Bell can offer to create the richest possible experience,’ added Bell Canada and BCE CEO Michael Sabia.

Construction on the new headquarters started in late January, and is expected to open in late 2009. TIFFers have so far raised $137 million of their $196-million target, following an also-announced $2-million donation from the Copyright Collective of Canada.
