Across the River to Motor City will face Global’s Shark and CTV’s Big Shots when it goes to air this fall, stepping into the Thursday 10 p.m. slot on most Citytv stations in late November.
The six-parter by Devine Entertainment and Jonsworth Productions will bow on the Citys in Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver on Nov. 22. That date is also the 44th anniversary of the JFK assassination, which seemingly has something to do with — although producers have been coy on this point — the murder mystery at the heart of the series, which is set half in the present day, half in 1963.
Winnipeg will be the first to see the series. The City station there will debut Motor City on Nov. 19, at 10 p.m. CT.
The series was co-created by Robert Wertheimer (Charlie Jade, Bollywood/Hollywood) of Jonsworth and the very busy Denis McGrath (Blood Ties, The Border). Wertheimer was also showrunner, cowriter and exec producer, working with execs David Devine and Richard Mozer. Michael DeCarlo directed with David Greene as DOP.
The story follows Ben Ford, a man whose would-be wife disappeared on the same day Kennedy was killed. When her body is unearthed four decades later, the investigation is reopened, putting a cloud over his already-troubled relationship with his daughter. Sasha Roiz (Jeff Ltd. , Land of the Dead) stars as young Ben, while the older one is played by David Fox (The Trojan Horse, Snow Cake).
