NBC’s shuffle of its fall schedule is having a ripple effect on broadcasters north of the border, which, following Monday’s announcements at the Television Critics Association tour, saw titles including Chuck and Deal or No Deal jump across the grid. Citytv has already made one change, and a number of shows carried here by Global are also affected.
NBC has moved its new drama Chuck from Tuesday at 9 p.m. to Mondays at 8 p.m. — using it as a lead-in for Heroes and Journeyman. Chuck is carried in Canada by City, which will follow suit in order to keep the show in simulcast.
The change, however, leaves City’s Tuesday 9 p.m. timeslot open and displaces the new Blood Ties, which City had previously planned to run starting Aug. 20. City programmers may wait until the TCA sessions are done before they announce other changes.
The movement of Chuck does not affect Global, which plans to use Fox’s Prison Break as the 8 p.m. lead-in to NBC’s Heroes and Journeyman on Mondays, but other changes made by NBC do. The peacock network has moved Deal or No Deal from Mondays at 8 p.m. to Fridays at 8 p.m., where it will lead in to Friday Night Lights at 9 p.m., followed by Las Vegas at 10 p.m.
Global had scheduled Friday Night Lights as its Friday 8 p.m. lead-in to Las Vegas and Numb3rs. The Singing Bee, on the newly branded E! channels, has also moved to the Tuesday 9:30 p.m. timeslot, leading out of an expanded 90-minute version of The Biggest Loser.
Global has not yet announced any revisions to its fall schedule. The NBC changes do not affect CTV.
