Nurses see Sicko for free

Alliance Atlantis is offering nurses a free pass to see Michael Moore’s health-care documentary Sicko, in support of a move earlier this month by the United Nurses of Alberta, which purchased 150 tickets to distribute to the public.

Moore congratulated the Alberta union’s move late last week and offered to reimburse them, prompting Alliance to offer all Canadian nurses complimentary passes to Sicko, about the poor state of the U.S. healthcare system, from July 16-19.

‘We applaud the United Nurses of Alberta for their enthusiasm and hope to encourage others in the nursing profession to see the film that continues to spark debate across this country,’ said Jim Sherry, executive managing director of AA’s distribution wing, in a release.

‘Nurses across Canada are on the front line in the battle against those forces who want to inch the Canadian health-care system toward the American way,’ said Moore.

To date, the film has taken in $1.5 million after two weeks on Canadian screens. It hit a per-screen average of $15,300 in its first week.

Nurses who present professional ID will be able to see Sicko at participating Cineplex, Empire and Landmark theaters.
