VisionTV has picked up and will air the complete first season of Little Mosque on the Prairie in its Monday 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT timeslot, starting on Aug. 6. The eight episodes will effectively lead into the CBC’s Oct. 3 premiere of the show’s second season.
The hit sitcom averaged more than one million viewers per episode after its CBC debut in January. Its creator, Zarqa Nawaz, previously worked with Vision and, in November 2005, aired her documentary Me and the Mosque.
Mark Prasuhn, COO and SVP of programming at the multi-faith cable channel, says the acquisition demonstrates Vision’s renewed commitment to becoming a viewer destination for top-notch comedy and drama in primetime. Also this week, Little Mosque picked up two awards at the Roma Fiction Fest in Italy, taking best series and best writing.
‘There was never a better time in this world for a show like Little Mosque on the Prairie,’ said Marco Spagnoli, deputy director of the Italian television festival.
