Alliance Atlantis Vivafilm is continuing its stranglehold on the Quebec box office with its French-language actioner Nitro, which has generated $2 million after 10 days in theaters.
The film, which earned $1.2 million in its first three days in theaters after a strong push by Vivafilm, is the latest box-office success for the Montreal-based distributor, which saw its Ma fille, mon ange cross the $2-million line earlier this year. Its Bon Cop, Bad Cop made $12.2 million in 2006. Nitro is playing on 123 screens in Quebec.
Directed by Alain Desrochers, Nitro follows Max (Guillaume-Lemay Thivierge) on a desperate quest to find a heart for his dying wife, which forces him to return to his dark past. The film, produced by Pierre Even (C.R.A.Z.Y.) and exec produced by Richard Speer (C.R.A.Z.Y.) and Josée Vallée (Naked Josh), also stars Lucie Laurier (Bon Cop, Bad Cop) and Raymond Bouchard (La grande séduction).
