• CTV has signed a three-year broadcast deal with the National Football League that includes ratings powerhouse the Super Bowl, scooping the rights from Global. Its sister TSN, meanwhile, has signed a three-year deal for exclusive rights for live airings of the French Open beginning this year.
• The Movie Network and Movie Central have picked up the eight-part mystery mini Meadowlands, set to premiere simultaneously on Showtime and MC on June 17, followed by TMN on June 18.
• Mongrel Media has purchased the Canadian rights for Palme d’Or winner 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days and Cannes jury prize winner Persepolis. Both will be released later this year.
• Hallmark International has picked up the 2 x 120 mini Prairie Giant: The Tommy Douglas Story, with plans to air it on its channels in the U.K., Central and Eastern Europe, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and other territories
• CBC has finalized multiple deals with international buyers for various investigative documentaries. ABC Australia and MSNBC have purchased Mississippi Cold Case, an investigation into a 43-year-old murder that led to the arrest of a suspect earlier this year by producer David Ridgen. ABC Australia and Brazil’s NRK purchased The Denial Machine, a doc on global warming, while Latin America’s Discovery Channel and South Africa’s M-Net have purchased Nuclear Jihad: Can Terrorists Get the Bomb?
• CCI Entertainment has sold its 40 x 30 sci-fi Timeblazers to nine casters, including ATV in Hong Kong, Nine Network in Australia, Discovery Kids US, Discovery UK and France’s TPS.
• Picture Box Distribution has sold the rights for the makeover series Style By Jury (130 x 30) to Japan’s SFINX, Korea’s Media Silk Road and Discovery Asia.
• Sullivan Entertainment International has purchased the rights for Darius Films’ Run Robot Run. Sullivan will handle international distribution of the oddball comedy directed by first-time filmmaker Daniel O’Connor.
