Richard Hardacre has been re-elected to a second term as national president of ACTRA, following a vote by the union’s governing council. Hardacre, who earlier this year steered ACTRA through its first strike, called the six-week walkout and its settlement a ‘major victory’ for actors but, in a Monday release, spoke of the need to make improvements in the industry.
‘It’s now time to put this union’s determination into restoring conditions for Canadian production, particularly dramatic content for television and film. This is essential work that reflects the culture of our peoples,’ he said.
He will serve another two-year term. Ballot counts from the 24-member council were not made public. ACTRA represents some 21,000 actors across Canada.
