Blueprint opens kids branch

Blueprint Entertainment has formed a new kiddie division and handed its keys to Frank Saperstein, posting the longtime producer to its L.A. offices as SVP of animation and children’s programming.

The move is the latest in a series of deals and expansions at Blueprint, which last week bought into distributor Oasis International and, in February, drew a multimillion-dollar investment from Robert Lantos and Jeff Sagansky. The company also recently expanded its L.A. staff, bringing in TV veterans Marla Ginsburg and Ellie Hannibal in an effort to ramp up its production and development.

Saperstein’s TV career stretches back 20 years to Pee-wee’s Playhouse, after which he moved on to other notable titles as Bob and Margaret, The Ren & Stimpy Show, Silverwing and Captain Flamingo. He comes to Blueprint Kids from Philippine Animation Studios (Seven Little Monsters, Biker Mice from Mars), where he oversaw copros, marketing and creative.

At Blueprint Kids, he will head up development and production of all of its animation and kids properties, which include the copros Shoebox Zoo and Iggy Arbuckle.

‘Frank will be instrumental in launching and building the Blueprint Kids brand,’ said John Morayniss, chairman and CEO of BE, in a statement.
