W Network has picked up the reality/competition Dirty Dancing: Living the Dream from WE in the U.S. and will add the eight-part series to its Sunday night timeslot in May.
The series will air at 7 p.m. ET, looking to reel in fans of the 20-year-old box-office smash Dirty Dancing. Its launch on the Corus-owned channel will follow a weekend of dance movies including the original, the sequel Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, Shall We Dance? and Dying to Dance.
The series is hosted by Jennifer Lopez’s choreographer, Cris Judd, and pairs 30 dance hopefuls (dubbed ‘Babys,’ after Jennifer Grey’s character in the original) with six professional dance instructors (‘Johnnys,’ after the Patrick Swayze role).
The winning team will score a professional dance contract and trip for two to the London premiere of Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story on Stage.
