Nelvana adds reps for Europe, Asia

Nelvana Studios has brought in producers Marion Edwards and Derek Reeves to represent and manage its international coproductions in Europe and Asia.

Both will work on contract and report to Irene Weibel, VP international of Corus Kids. ‘Marion and Derek will work closely with new and existing production partners and also focus our efforts on uncovering new talent and properties in these two key territories,’ said Weibel in a release.

Edwards’ first project at the Corus-owned company is the 52 x 11 Canada/France copro Willa’s Wild Life, based on the book An Octopus Followed Me Home. Edwards is a former managing director of 2D animation studio Telemagination, where she exec produced shows such as The Cramp Twins and Metalheads.

Reeves will be tasked with the 26 x 30 wildlife show The Future is Wild, a Canada/Singapore copro based on the Animal Planet special. The series will air in Canada on Teletoon and in the U.S. on Discovery Kids. Reeves cofounded Limelight Studios in New Zealand, where he exec produced documentaries and children’s animation including Fifty the Tractor.

Meanwhile, the company’s sales and licensing division, Nelvana Enterprises, has announced it will bring the preschooler series My Friend Rabbit to MIPTV next week.

The 26 x 30, about the wide-eyed adventures of best friends Mouse and Rabbit, will make its debut this fall on qubo, the recently launched U.S. digichannel and programming block in which Corus partnered with NBC Universal and ION Media Networks.

‘The charming character designs, clever sense of humor and strong educational core make the series an ideal fit for our network,’ said qubo president Rick Rodriguez in a release. Rabbit will premiere in Canada on Treehouse in 2008.
