$5-million boxing flick Broken underway

MONTREAL — Director Louis Choquette (Delirium) has stepped into the ring with André Dupuy and $4.8 million to make the boxing melodrama La ligne brisée (The Broken Line).

‘It’s taken us four years to finance this film,’ says Dupuy (Le 7e round), who produces for Pixcom. ‘We are extremely excited that we’re now filming. Louis has a very unique vision for the film — this will be very different, unlike anything we’ve seen before.’ Shooting got underway last month in Montreal.

He says the plot involves the personal tensions of the central characters — David Boutin (Le Secret de ma mère) and Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge (Trudeau II) — that ultimately play out in the boxing ring. But he notes that the script has some plot twists in it that are closely guarded secrets. ‘You have to come and see the finished film. We really don’t want these things getting out before the film is released.’

Fanny Mallette (Cheech), Jacynthe René (The Adventures of Pluto Nash) and Germain Houde (Les invincibles) also star. The film will wrap in late May and is slated for a February 2008 release by Alliance Atlantis Vivafilm.
