Scarry show for CBC

CBC has picked up a new series from Cookie Jar Entertainment, and will premiere Busytown Mysteries (Hurray for Huckle) perhaps later this year as part of its preschool programming block, Kids’ CBC.

The 26 x 30 2D cartoon is based on the work of noted children’s author Richard Scarry, and produced by Christine Davis under execs Michael Hirsh and Pam Slavin. Scarry’s son, Huck Scarry, is sitting in as a creative consultant.

Busytown follows a cat, a hippo and other characters as they solve puzzles and ‘everyday mysteries’ around their hometown. Cookie Jar will handle sales at MIPTV.

‘We love book properties and it’s hard to think of one that is as fun, entertaining and challenging as the Scarry books. It’s going to be a great series,’ said Kim Wilson, creative head of kids programming at CBC, in a statement. Scarry, who died in 1994, published more than 300 books that sold over 150 million copies worldwide.
