Is the coming Simpsons flick building buzz for the series and other animated comedies? The long-running cartoon is consistently getting millions of eyeballs for Global, and Family Guy is showing up on the national Top 30. Here are the national winners (for all persons 2+, all times ET), according to BBM/Nielsen for March 19-25.
Monday: CTV’s CSI: Miami took the night’s top numbers in the 10 p.m. timeslot, raking in an average 2.4 million viewers, up from 1.8 million in the previous week’s chart. The net’s Dancing with the Stars won at 8 p.m. with a 1.8 million average against Global’s Prison Break, which earned 1.4 million. Global won at 9 p.m. with 24‘s 1.2 million average, down from 1.37 million a week earlier.
Tuesday: CTV’s two-hour timeslot for American Idol, from 8-10 p.m., won the night and the Top 30 with 2.7 million viewers, down slightly from the previous week’s average. The net kept a 1.5 million average through the 10 p.m. timeslot with Law & Order: SVU. Global’s House won at 9 p.m. with 1.3 million viewers, up slightly from the previous week’s Tuesday night airing.
Wednesday: It was a close race, but ultimately the crown went again to CTV’s American Idol, which got 2.2 million viewers in the 9 p.m. timeslot — about the same as the previous week’s chart. The net got the second-highest average of the night with CSI: New York, earning 2.2 million viewers at 10 p.m., up from the show’s previous average of 1.5 million. Global’s Survivor: Fiji got two million for a national average at 8 p.m., settling just below the other two shows in the Top 30. CTV’s Lost, the previous week’s 8 p.m. winner, got 1.1 million, down slightly from 1.2 million. CTV’s Crossing Jordan, at 9 p.m., measured an 868,000 AMA, down from 1.1 million on the previous chart.
Thursday: CTV’s Grey’s Anatomy won Thursday night with a 2.6 million average at 9 p.m., down from 2.7 million. Global’s Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader? won at 8 p.m. again with an average of 1.4 million, down from 1.8 million on the previous chart. CTV’s Criminal Minds earned 1.3 million at 10 p.m., down from the previous week’s 1.6 million. The net’s CSI, at 8 p.m., took last place on the night’s primetime list, with an average of 1.2 million.
Friday: CTV’s Law & Order, the only Friday night drama to hit the Top 30, raked in one million viewers at 10 p.m., down from 1.1 million the previous week.
Saturday: Game one of CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada, featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs versus the Buffalo Sabres, averaged 1.4 million, down from the previous week’s 1.6 million. CTV’s W-FIVE, airing at 7 p.m., earned 892,000.
Sunday: CTV’s The Amazing Race took the night with 1.9 million viewers in the 8 p.m. timeslot, up from the previous chart’s 1.8 million average. The net’s 9 p.m. offering, Cold Case, earned a 1.4 million average, up from 1.3 million. Global’s The Simpsons took 1.1 million viewers at 8 p.m., still a good lead-in for Family Guy, which got one million at 9 p.m..
