MONTREAL — Cogeco Cable video-on-demand subscribers will soon be able to watch Borat on TV after the cable company signed a distribution deal with 20th Century Fox Monday.
‘Our VOD service is growing in popularity and we are thrilled to be associated with 20th Century Fox, which produces many blockbusters each year. This agreement will enable us to enhance our VOD selection as well as our customers’ VOD experience,’ said Ron Perrotta, VP of marketing at Cogeco Cable, in a statement.
Popular Fox flicks such as X-Men: The Last Stand, Little Miss Sunshine and The Devil Wears Prada will be accessible to Cogeco VOD users as of Wednesday. Borat will debut on Cogeco on April 4.
Cogeco also recently announced it’s launching three new high-definition channels in Ontario: National Geographic HD, Showcase HD and the sports channel Score HD. Ontario customers who already pay the monthly $5.99 HD access fee can tune in to the new channels for no additional cost.
Cogeco Cable is the second largest cable operator in Ontario, Quebec and, more recently, Portugal, following its January purchase of Cabovisao. Last year, its digital TV service drew more than 80,000 new subscribers. Cogeco services 1.4 million homes in Canada and 829,000 in Portugal.
