OIAF, NSI taking applications

Deadlines are approaching for both the Ottawa International Animation Festival and the next run of Totally Television at the National Screen Institute in Winnipeg, both of which revealed their timelines in separate announcements last week.

The OIAF is seeking submissions for its return this September, and this year is taking a closer look at new media. ‘This year we’re putting some emphasis on reaching out to the gaming, mobile, wireless and interactive world,’ says artistic director Chris Robinson in a release. ‘It’s important that the OIAF celebrate the work being done in these new forms.’

The fest is accepting submissions in six categories — independent short films, features, new media, commissioned films, student films and films for children — until June 1. Preview DVDs must be in by June 15.

NSI, meanwhile, is taking applications from writer/producer teams looking to develop a series through its Totally Television, a 10-month program aimed at fine-tuning scripted series.

‘We’re looking for writers and producers who are poised to create hits for the scripted television industry in Canada and around the world,’ said program manager Kit Redmond (From the Ground Up with Debbie Travis) in a release.

The NSI deadline is May 15. See www.nsi-canada.ca and www.animationfestival.ca for details.
