MONTREAL — Four of Quebec’s best-known stars are up for one of the most coveted prizes at this year’s Gala Artis, the French-language TV awards that on Thursday announced its nominees, including those for female personality of the year.
The nods put Clodine Desrochers — a sort of Quebec Martha Stewart — up against Chantal Fontaine, star of the long-running téléroman Virginie; veteran TVA news host Sophie Thibault; and last year’s winner, Guylaine Tremblay, who plays the central character on the weekly soap Annie est ses hommes.
Comic and host of the hit Radio-Canada show Toute le monde en parle, Guy A. Lepage, is up for male personality of the year, along with Charles Lafortune, frontman of TVA’s Le Cercle and L’école des fans. News anchors Jean-Luc Mongrain and Pierre Bruneau, who host supper-hour news programs on TQS and TVA, respectively, round out the category.
Bruneau and Mongrain are also nominated in the news anchor category, as are SRC’s Bernard Derome and Thibault.
The Artis awards — formerly known as the MetroStars — are produced and broadcast by TVA, Quebec’s largest private network, which boycotts the province’s other major television awards, the Gemeaux.
To pick the nominees in 14 categories, pollster Léger Marketing interviewed 2,002 people across Quebec. For the next month, Quebecers can select their favorite TV stars from among these nominees by voting online or in Tim Hortons donut shops. The winners are revealed at a televised gala on April 29.
