The Big Apple will host some of the best in recent Canuck cinema this week, as eight films, including the hockey bio The Rocket and Sarah Polley’s Away from Her, screen at the fourth annual Canadian Front 2007 at the Museum of Modern Art.
‘This fourth invitation to collaborate with MoMA demonstrates a strong interest in Canadian cinema,’ said Telefilm Canada executive director Wayne Clarkson in a release.
Other films selected for Canadian Front 2007 include: Dans les villes, Catherine Martin’s drama about loneliness; Immigrant, from rookie filmmaker Bojan Bodruzic; and Sophie Deraspe’s critically acclaimed Missing Victor Pellerin, a mock doc about a missing Montreal artist.
Documentaries selected include Radiant City, from Alberta’s Gary Burns and Jim Brown; Remembering Arthur, from Montreal filmmaker Martin Lavut; and Gariné Torossian’s Stone Time Touch, about a Canadian woman who travels back to her homeland of Armenia.
‘Canadian Front 2007 is distinguished by strong first features, extraordinary performances and perspectives on truth that are quirky, exciting and invigorating,’ said MoMA senior curator Laurence Kardish.
The showcase runs March 14-19.
