Robert Lantos and former Tri-Star Pictures president Jeff Sagansky made an unspecified multi-million-dollar investment in Blueprint Entertainment, closing a deal on Feb. 28 that will see the L.A.- and Toronto-based prodco expand its operations and production efforts.
The deal shuffles Blueprint’s founders and co-presidents into new roles – with John Morayniss stepping up to chairman and CEO, while Noreen Halpern takes over as president, overseeing development and production.
Lantos and Sagansky, meanwhile, will act as advisors. Further details of the deal have not been revealed.
‘With this equity infusion, coupled with the extensive experience of Robert and Jeff, we intend to move to the next level very quickly, by substantially expanding into new arenas and doing what we’ve always done but on a much larger scale,’ said Morayniss in a release.
‘Blueprint has a unique business model and a creative strategy that dovetails with it. Under the stewardship of Morayniss and Halpern,’ added Lantos, ‘I believe the company will quickly evolve into a leading supplier of quality content to broadcasters everywhere.’
Lantos and his Serendipity Point Films are preparing to take the newly finished Fugitive Pieces on the festival circuit.
Sagansky also owns part of Peace Arch Entertainment, following a $2-million investment in 2005 shared with former Paramount Television exec Kerry McCluggage and Drew Craig, ex of Craig Media.
In late February, Blueprint closed a deal with Fremantle Enterprises, which picked up the global distribution rights to the series Love You to Death and The Best Years. The U.K. handler will present the series to buyers at MIPTV in April.
The 13 x 30 true crime series Love You to Death, about spouses who have killed their loved ones, is scheduled to air in the spring on Global and Court TV, hosted by John Waters. Ken Hanes exec produces with Ira Pincus, Jeff Lieberman, Morayniss and Halpern.
The Best Years, a soapy 13 x 60 drama from creator Aaron Martin (Degrassi: The Next Generation), about the ups and downs of college life, is set to debut in the summer on Global and The N.
