Toronto producer and distributor CCI Entertainment has entered a three-year partnership to create children-targeted series and television movies with its Dinosapien copro cohort, Calgary’s Seven24.
Under the agreement, the duo will produce, market and distribute original live-action and animation properties. CCI co-chair Charles Falzon says his company will sell the programming created under this remit, and production will be based in Alberta.
The development slate includes a tween sitcom, Stuck in the Middle. The half-hour live-actioner explores the lives of three siblings who split half of their time with their A-type personality mother and their environmentalist father. Jim Corston, EVP of production, says the single-camera, studio-based series is inspired by Family Channel’s Life with Derek. CCI is courting Canadian broadcasters for a presale, and the series should bow in fall 2008.
Two TV movies, set to start filming in 2008, are also in the offing. Corston says holiday-themed long formats are a hot property for worldwide broadcasters, so the duo has developed two titles to answer the call. Kerri’s Christmas Wish merges tender family moments with slapstick humor, exploring the transformation of a materialistic family into one that appreciates the true meaning of the holiday.
Night Ride, intended for Halloween schedules, takes a look at three extreme sports players who break down in a ghost town. Although it is a thriller, it’s intended to be enjoyed by a family audience.
More titles will be announced in the coming months. Meanwhile, CCI and Seven24 are busy planning to start production in July for an additional 13 episodes of their CG-heavy adventure series Dinosapien.
