The ratings were a good news/bad news story for CBC this week. Its comedy Little Mosque on the Prairie continues to draw eyeballs — bringing just over one million viewers to its third episode on Jan. 31 — a slight dip from episode two, which grabbed 1.2 million.
CBC programming chief Kirstine Layfield tells Playback Daily the network is ‘thrilled’ over Mosque‘s faithful following.
‘Even after last week being pre-empted by the NHL All Star game, audiences have returned. I think we have a certified hit on our hands,’ she says.
Intelligence, however, ended its season on a low note, attracting just 207,000 viewers to the Ceeb with its season finale on Jan. 30 — for a season average of just 304,000. The Chris Haddock crime series finshed its inaugural run opposite a strong Tuesday night from House, which returned from hiatus with over 2.6 million viewers for Global.
Meanwhile, CTV’s Corner Gas continues to hold its own up against the convicts of Global’s Prison Break, Mondays at 8 p.m. The episode entitled ‘Census Sensibility’ scored over 1.6 million viewers, edging out Break‘s 1.5 million and making it the most-watched episode of the season.
CTV will roll out other homegrown comedies this month, including Robson Arms and Jeff Ltd. on Feb. 10, while Global gets set to air the second season of The Jane Show on Feb. 7.
