Montreal: Shooting commences in Montreal this month on The Yellow Woman, the $5.3-million film directed by Émile Gaudreault and written by Steve Galluccio who previously collaborated on Mambo Italiano. The comedic drama follows a woman’s efforts to reconnect with her dying mother.
‘This film is really about the fact sometimes the people you are closest to you don’t really know,’ says Galluccio.
It is produced by Denise Robert and Daniel Louis of Cinémaginaire, who also backed Mambo Italiano – one of Quebec’s standout box-office successes of 2003, and a hard act to follow.
‘Mambo was such a huge success,’ concedes Galluccio. ‘People still identify me with it. It would be cool if this were as big, but I know not everything can approach that level of success. I feel like I’ve developed as a writer since Mambo.’
Yellow Woman is lit by seasoned DOP Pierre Mignot (C.R.A.Z.Y.), and stars Caroline Dhavernas (Hollywoodland, These Girls), Ellen David (Mambo Italiano) and Véronique Le Flaguais (Rumeurs). The shoot runs until Nov. 1, funded by Telefilm Canada and SODEC.
