Montreal: Mary Walsh is hoping for a fall release and possible festival tour for her latest film and directorial debut, Young Triffie’s Been Made Away With.
A rough cut of the $4-million feature comedy is now complete, thanks to editor Yvann Thibaudeau, following a shoot late last year in Newfoundland.
Set in a small fishing village in the ’50s, the Maritime whodunit has Fred Ewanuick (Corner Gas) as a ranger who is investigating a series of sheep killings. While out in the field, he discovers an actual human murder victim and, though entirely unqualified, is pushed into investigating the crime.
‘I love what Mary has done with this,’ says producer Denise Robert (Les Invasions barbares). ‘It’s very, very funny indeed, with a sort of Peter Sellers kind of detective attempting to solve this mystery in this very insular community. It’s hilarious.’
Young Triffie received funding from Telefilm Canada, SODEC and the Newfoundland and Labrador Film Development Corporation. It also stars Andrea Martin (SCTV, My Big Fat Greek Wedding), Rémy Girard (Les Bougon, Les Invasions barbares) and Walsh.
It will be distributed by TVA Films and is produced by Robert and Daniel Louis of Montreal’s Cinémaginaire and Barbara Doran of St. John’s Morag Loves Company.
