The revolving door at CBC continued to spin this month, with Sally Catto rejoining the net as creative head of drama, taking over for the freshly exited Susan Morgan.

Morgan left the network after 20 years on May 12. CBC staffers learned of Catto’s arrival four days later in an internal e-mail from newly minted arts and entertainment boss Fred Fuchs.

‘This is excellent news for TV arts & entertainment,’ wrote Fuchs.

Catto was the exec in charge of drama production at the network from 2001 to 2005, after which she moved to a division of the Australian pubcaster SBS. She also previously worked at prodco Accent Entertainment in Toronto.

Morgan had been creative head of drama since 2003, and was behind such shows and specials as This Is Wonderland, Da Vinci’s Inquest, Trudeau, Prairie Giant: The Tommy Douglas Story and the upcoming medical drama Jozi H.

The network has not said why she left, but an unnamed source close to the situation blamed it on friction between Morgan and English TV EVP Richard Stursberg.

The public broadcaster has recently replaced a number of top-level executives. Fuchs took over for longtime vet Deborah Bernstein in April, following Kirstine Layfield’s replacement of Slawko Klymkiw in January.
