U.S. animation cable channel Cartoon Network has picked up the first 26-episode season of Zixx, and began airing the CG-animated/live-action hybrid in its Saturday morning lineup on Jan. 21.
Originally produced by Vancouver’s Mainframe Entertainment for YTV, the series is about an alien-led group of young heroes who use their video-gaming skills to protect the universe from various evils. Zixx was developed by Savi Media and The Nightingale Company, and has aired two seasons on YTV. The Cartoon Network deal was put together through IDT Entertainment Sales, the series’ worldwide distributor.
Mainframe has appointed Al Ovadia and Associates the worldwide licensing agent for Zixx. Ovadia is credited with the licensing successes of The Simpsons and, more recently, the popular Swedish export Crazy Frog. The Zixx merch lines will roll out in tandem with the Cartoon Network launch.
