* CHUM International closed several deals at NATPE for its entertainment and fashion shows – selling the 20th anniversary special of FashionTelevision to the E! and Style channels of E! Entertainment, and its 18 x 30 makeover series Much In Your Space to Donga TV in South Korea. Meanwhile, the Multishow Channel in Brazil picked up the star profilers Born to Be (16 x 30) and The Star Machine (1 x 60), the music history series Evolution (15 x 30) and the hot-or-not Heat Meter (15 x 30). All are original to CHUM’s MuchMusic.
CHUM, in turn, came home from NATPE with the daily one-hour talker Rachael Ray, now slated to air in September.
CHUM International has also licensed its MuchMusic format to investors in the Czech Republic, paving the way for Much Czech to launch within the year. It followed up with a similar deal that handed the Star! format to Orbit Communications, now set to beam celebrity news into the Middle East and north Africa.
* British Telecommunications has bought 15 eps each of Maggie and the Ferocious Beast, Little Bear, Babar, Max & Ruby and The Fairly OddParents from Nelvana. The toons will air on BT’s video-on-demand service, set to launch by fall.
* TVOntario, TFO and France 5 have ordered a second season (26 x 30) of the animated Miss BG by Breakthrough Animation and Ellipsanime. Breakthrough also recently sold seasons one and two (52 x 30) of its Atomic Betty toon, plus the Christmas special, to Televideo Services for Latin America. The Toronto-based animation shop also recently signed a deal to develop a 26 x 30 series, Buddy’s, for the gay-aimed channel here! in the U.S.
* The preschooler series Roll Play has presold to Radio-Canada, via distributor Picture Box. The 52 x 4 by Sinking Ship Productions (This Is Daniel Cook) will shoot this spring for Treehouse TV.
* CTV has signed a deal with FremantleMedia to secure seasons six through nine of American Idol, and another five seasons of its Canuck spin-off, extending Canadian Idol into 2010. Auditions for season four start this month.
