In the interest of getting them while they’re young, Toronto software developer Alias is organizing a contest aimed at recognizing students who demonstrate ‘exceptional creativity and skill’ at design.
Titled Ahead of the Curve, the competition is open to all students up until and including the post-secondary level. Alias will choose three winners in each of five categories, including film and video as well as games asset development. Participants must choose their tools from among a selection of Alias software packages.
First-place winners, as well as their schools, will receive prize packs including Alias products. Second- and third-place finishers will also receive Alias packages. Of course, winners will also benefit from the contest’s industry exposure. Alias reports that so far it has received entries from Canada, the U.S. and Japan.
The deadline for submissions is May 31, and more information is available at www.alias.com/aheadofthecurve.
Alias, which makes Maya 3D software, used on many FX-heavy blockbusters, such as Warner Bros.’ forthcoming Superman Returns, was acquired by U.S.-based giant Autodesk in a deal finalized on Jan. 10.
