The Alliance for Children and Television will hold the first Children, Youth and Media Conference in Toronto on Nov. 10, bringing together creators and broadcasters of youth-focused programming from Canada and the U.S. The expected 200 delegates will take part in panels and workshops, including a speed-pitching session and a discussion of U.S. preschool programming featuring reps from the Cartoon Network and Boston-based pubcaster WGBH.

IATSE, Showtime sign pact

IATSE and Showtime have signed an agreement for exclusive use of the union’s crews on shoots for the American pay-TV service. The deal applies to shoots in both Canada and the U.S. and follows a similar agreement already in place between IATSE and Showtime competitor HBO.

The deal also features a residuals provision for shows that are later sold on home video. According to IATSE, a typical, successful Showtime series employs about 75 IATSE members. The U.S. channel has been shooting more shows in Canada recently, including Weeds and The L Word.
