Kent reunites with Streeters in Hamster Cage

Vancouver – Prolific Vancouver filmmaker Larry Kent (Mothers and Daughters) is currently in post with his latest feature, The Hamster Cage. According to producer Robert French (See Grace Fly), casting for the film began more than 40 years ago.

As the story goes, in 1962, Kent shot his first film, The Street, a short that was never finished because of still-unresolved sound issues. Four decades later, the short’s stars Patricia Dahlquith, Alan Scarfe and Scott Hylands submitted themselves to Kent’s direction again in Hamster Cage. Tom Scholte, Carly Pope and Jillian Fargey also star.

French calls the film ‘a gothic tale’ about the unmaking of a family in just 12 hours. The script is by Kent and Daniel Williams, and Gilles Blais is DOP.The film shot last August in Langley, BC at French’s mother’s house.

Telefilm Canada put in some money during preproduction, but the bulk of the financing has come out of pocket from producers Kent, French and longtime Kent associate Perry Creticos. Tom Lavin is executive producer. French says they are hoping Telefilm will come through with some finishing funds as well.
