Capri in gear for Villeneuve feature

Montreal – Canadian Formula One fans used to seeing Jacques Villeneuve’s moves live on the racetrack will soon see him in action on the big screen in Villeneuve, a feature from producer Gabriella Martinelli.

Toronto-based Capri Films has announced that Christian Duguay is signed on to direct the feature, which focuses on the career of Gilles Villeneuve, the former champ’s father, who suffered a fatal crash in 1982 during a qualifying session for the World Championship. Jacques, currently in his ninth Formula One season, will race in the film and act as a consultant.

Based on Gerald Donaldson’s best-selling biography Gilles Villeneuve: The Life of the Legendary Driver, Malcolm Clarke (Prisoner of Paradise) is attached to write the screenplay. Production is slated for 2006. Laura Bracken
