New products from Kodak, Fuji

The two major film stock manufacturers have new color negative stocks for filmmakers.

According to Kodak, cinematographers who have tested the Kodak Vision2 250D 5205/7205 stock reported enhanced highlight and shadow areas, accurate skin-tone reproduction, and a wider range of exposures than with previous 250D releases. The company reports more neutrality in the tone scale, along with smoother details. Kodak designed the daylight film, which is now available in Canada, for seamless integration with other Kodak Vision2 products.

Meanwhile, Fuji’s ETERNA500 features the company’s precision thin-layer film-coating manufacturing technology. The high-speed film is touted to have improved grain, sharper details, a consistent gray balance under any exposure, and excellent skin-tone reproduction. Fuji says DOPs will find the film of particular benefit when shooting in dark areas. ETERNA500 is slated for Canadian release in February or March.
