Entertainment lawyers Stephen Stohn and Ron Hay made additions to their Toronto firm last month with new partners Diana Cafazzo and Sandra Richmond. The expanded outfit – now Stohn Hay Cafazzo Dembroski Richmond LLP – is repositioning itself to cover more areas of media law. It added music lawyer Steven Ehrlick and media/sports lawyer David Dembroski in 2003.
‘There’s such a depth here, and a focus on media and entertainment law,’ says Richmond. ‘That’s one reason why we think this is such a good move. Part of it for Diana and for me was a sense that we could focus more on the kind of law we wanted to do.’
‘We now have the ability to team up on files to better serve our clients,’ says Hay.
Cafazzo and Richmond previously worked for McMillan Binch LLP and have contributed articles to Playback’s column on media law. Some of the firm’s partners work in production as well. Ehrlick is CEO of The Orange Record Label and Stohn is a principal at Epitome Pictures, producer of Degrassi: The Next Generation and CTV’s upcoming Instant Star.
The client list, though undisclosed, includes production companies, talent, banks and other production financiers in Canada and the U.K., says Hay.
